Confidence, Control, Coping, Curiosity, Communication, Community Building, and Conflict Resolution

These are the essential social skills every child needs! When adults are familiar with these social skills, school-age programs can be a nurturing environment where children can learn and practice these skills. Using Literature to Teach Social Skills provides a fun and effective way to teach children new skills.

Lisa Shaffer has created a unique, hands-on guide using literature as a springboard to teach these 7 social skills to children.

By using literature as a foundation, this guide helps teach social skills by providing staff with the spark they need to gain children's attention. Using the numerous follow-up activities, staff can meet children's individual needs in a fun hands-on way.

The guide was specifically designed for the school-age care provider. It offers an explanation of each skill along with hands-on activities in an easy to use format in which each skill builds upon one another. This guide can be adapted to children of various age groups. The activities provide specific steps, explanations of time and supplies needed and discussion questions to reinforce the skills learned.

This book provides a fun innovative way to teach children the 7 essential social skills they need to succeed in life.
